I'm really thrilled by the dice mechanics of "The Republic". It acts as an excellent representation of your character in regards to attributes, traits, health, ... and also lets the players decide if they want to do a risky action or a (probably) safe one. Brilliant! Even some kind of character advancement is possible with the dice mechanics. I can easily see this as a "gateway game" for roleplayers who want to see what story-gaming can do for them. The setting (Hellenistic Athens) is a nice fit, too, with lots of plot ideas during character creation. Fantastic game!
